ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Studies show that boswellic acid can prevent the formation of leukotrienes in the body.  Leukotrienes have been identified as a cause of inflammation and may trigger asthma symptoms, along with other inflammatory conditions in the body.  Four acids in Boswellia resin contribute to the herb’s anti-inflammatory properties.  These acids inhibit 5-lipoxygenase (5-LO), an enzyme that produces leukotriene.  Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA) is thought to be the most powerful of the four boswellic acids.

Some research suggests frankincense may interfere with the autoimmune process.  Frankincense is currently being evaluated as a therapy for Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Osteoarthritis.

Frankincense has been shown in studies to prohibit certain enzymes from negatively affecting DNA.  Other studies have shown frankincense may fight advanced breast cancer cells and limit the spread of malignant leukemia and brain tumor cells.  Other studies have shown frankincense to be effective in suppressing pancreatic cancer cells.

Research has shown the anti-inflammatory properties of frankincense to be effective against Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis.
