Cedar Atlas, Cedrus atlantica
Native to the Atlas mountains of North Africa and North Algeria and Morocco, Cedar Atlas, commonly called Atlas cedar is derived from the oil of the bark. It is steam distilled through the extracted bark of the tree. Cedar atlas has an intense earthy aroma that is easily attributed to a masculine nature. This product is available in a 15 mL amber glass Euro bottle.

Cedar atlas is used in medicinal and cosmetics; also as an insect repellent. Used in shampoos to stimulate hair follicles, keep grease to a minimum, relieve dry, itchy scalp and minimize hair loss. Women may use cedar atlas to help maintain normal menstrual cycles, minimize fatigue, nausea, and emotional imbalances including mood swings. It is thought that when we use the medicinal part of plants which are grounded into the earth that we encompass the strength of the plant. Cedar atlas is a very large tree, well known for its relaxing and emotionally benefiting effects. An increase in energy and inner strength is also a common effect of this herb as it is well known for its aphrodisiac effects. Cedar atlas is used to remedy respiratory issues including cough and colds, and helps to break up and expel mucus from the lungs and respiratory tract and is commonly used in bronchitis to relieve sore muscles. A common herb/essential oil used to decrease infection in wounds, including tetanus. As a diuretic, cedar atlas is used to eliminate excess toxins from the body through urination.
- To relive rheumatism and arthritis: mix 1-3 drops with 1 ounce of a carrier oil (coconut or jojoba oil) and massage into skin
- To relieve skin conditions including acne: mix 1-3 drops with 1 ounce of a carrier oil (coconut or jojoba) and rub onto skin before bed
- As an insect repellent: place a small amount onto a piece of cloth and place around your home to discourage insects and pests
- To relieve smooth muscles or purify a room: place a few drops (as needed) with water in a diffuser or place a few drops in bath water and soak for 30 minutes

HOW TO USE:
Aromatic – Add 3-4 drops of oil to distilled water and diffuse; inhale directly by cupping your hands around an open bottle and breathe in deeply through your nose.
Topical – Directly apply 1-3 drops of oil to the area of concern, the temples, or reflex points (this oil can be applied “neat” with no dilution, or dilute using a carrier oil for people with sensitive skin).
Internal – Take in capsules, or add a few drops as a flavoring in cooking. If pregnant, avoid taking cedar atlas internally.

For people with sensitive skin, Wellness Warrior suggests diluting essential oils with a vegetable based carrier oil, such as raw coconut or jojoba oil. This oil should not be used in children under the age of six and should not be used internally if pregnant.
